Bunion Deformities

Bunion Deformities

Simply put, a bunion deformity occurs when the affected joint becomes crooked or dislocated. The formation of a bunion is a progressive process that worsens over time. Bunion deformities may, in fact, be heredity and/or related to foot structure. It can affect both men and women as well as children. Bunions affect the big toe joint as well as the 5th toe joint. Bunions can be very painful due to the protrusion of the bone on the inside part of the foot. Oftentimes, the area becomes red and swollen. Over time, untreated bunion deformities may lead to painful arthritis of the affected joint. Your provider can discuss both conservative and surgical care with you.
